Elementary Teacher 2013-Present

Over the past 10 years, I have worked with the most amazing and inspiring students to make a difference in the world. My students and I have achieved many action projects together addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I am most proud of the outdoor edible garden we have built together with the support from the Whole Kids Foundation and TD Friends of the Environment. My students and I have also explored many Engineer Design Tasks through hydroponics, 3D printing, Microbits, and multiple coding programs. I am a strong advocate for interdisciplinary learning and truly believe student voice and empathetic problem solving are at the heart of my pedagogy.

Academic Researcher 2014-Present

Immersing myself in my thesis research back in 2014-2017 really taught be the value of academic literature, research, ethics, and publishing. My M.Ed. thesis defence at Brock University was one of my proudest moments in life (M.Ed. Thesis). Graduate studies taught me a lot of grit, which I have carried on to pursue further research endevors. After my M.Ed., I continued to publish with Dr. Tiffany Gallagher on an emergent literacy intervention program (Reading Horizons).

More recently, I have worked with Dr. Xavier Fazio at Brock University to pursue academic research on students' engagement when taking action towards Socio-Scientific Issues. We have focused on the Earth Force Action model and will continue our research in the 2023-24 school year!

SESSIONAL
INSTRUCTOR

University Sessional Instructor 2017

Combining my passions, educating and resaerching, I had the opportunity to work as a Sessional Instructor at Brock University. It was a great way to pass on my knowledge and understanding of academic studies with the practical application of concepts in the classroom. I instructed two courses at Brock University:

  • Congition and the Exceptional Learner - the course focused on Educational Psychology and Special Education

  • Language and Literacy year 2 - the course focused on Inquiry-Based Learning, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, and Multiliteracies

Over the past 10 years, I have also worked occasionally as a Teaching Assistant in the Education Department for Undergraduate Courses. Brock University is a special place to work, and I always find myself back there either working or researching.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCATE

Environmental Advocate

More of a self-procalimed title, but one that truely comes from my heart. I have learned a lot with my students over the years about taking Climate Action and addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I have become very passionate about protecting native species and have so much respect for Indigenous ways of knowing and living. If anyone is intersted in a great starting place to build some background knowledge, I highly reccomend reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This book was reccomended to me by my principal/mentor Lisa Scheer and has guided my way of thinking when planning environmental projects.
